2025 Dates
Thursday 9 January – Recent Treasure finds from Bucks
Items that are legally “Treasure” are regularly found across the county, most often by metal detectorists, and the museum has the opportunity to acquire these – if we can raise the funds!
From Bronze Age gold bracelets to Tudor love rings, if it’s gold or silver, and at least 300 years old, it may be Treasure. In this talk, Brett Thorn, Keeper of Archaeology, will be looking at some of the most interesting recent Treasure acquisitions, and how the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and the Treasure process help us to save these beautiful pieces of the county’s heritage.

Wednesday 12 March* – Exciting Finds
The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) is a national scheme run through the British Museum, and the Buckinghamshire post is based at Discover Bucks Museum. The scheme records individual objects found by members of the public, and has included some of the objects in our galleries, including the Lenborough Hoard. The talk will look at how the Scheme works, give a brief overview of treasure process and focus on some highlights of the exciting finds that have been found, and that represent the people of our past.  We’ll also look at what to do when you find the pot of gold, and handle some archaeological finds.
