Bucks Archaeological Society

Buckinghamshire Archaeological Society – is the county’s lead society for archaeology, history, architecture and heritage, was founded in 1847, has around 360 members, and each year publishes the academic journal Records of Buckinghamshire. The society’s early collections formed the nucleus of the County Museum, which the society founded in 1907 in its present listed historic building, then handing responsibility to the county council in 1957. Today the society retains a Library and Archive at the museum, runs talks and meetings, an Active Archaeology Group, an annual local-history conference, and – recently – regular conferences on the archaeological discoveries resulting from construction of the HS2 high-speed rail line.
